Lawrence Timeless

Lawrence // Timeless // (Cocoon Recordings, 2011)

Lawrence and his label, Dial, have been at the forefront of German’s electronic scene over the last five years, giving birth to two of some of the most respected electronic musicians today, Panthu du Prince and Efdemin. So its no surprise that Lawrence’s recently released mix CD, Timeless, taps into some of Dial’s sonic influences, and reminds me of Efdemin’s excellent mix CD Carry on, Pretend We’re Not in the Room. The key differences between the two is that Efdemin’s mix was slightly more off-beat, culling productions with samples from sources as varied as the television show “Gossip Girl” and a Gus Van Sant short film, “D.E. – Do Easy.” Timeless is a great and well-executed mix, tapping into early 90s deep house, IDM and minimal techno. Stand out tracks are “Life Aquatic” by Smallpeople and Rau, which has some sonic parallels to Future Sound of London’s Lifeforms, and Roman Flügel’s “Brian le Bon”, which is a beautiful IDM workout.

Glimpse // Runner // Crosstown Rebels (2010)

A while back Audratic had the distinct pleasure of speaking with Christopher Spero, aka Glimpse, who recently dropped his debut album, Runner, on Crosstown Rebels, one of the more respectable electronic music labels these days, with stellar acts such as Jamie Jones, Pier Bucci, Seth Troxler, Minilogue and label-head Damian Lazarus. Similar to his live performance …

Darkroom Dubs Vol. II // Darkroom Dubs (2010)

Darkroom Dubs Vol. II is a fine compilation and entry into the moody ambient techno / tech house genre.  Darkroom Dubs, the label behind the release, is run by Scottish DJ and production duo Craig Morrison and Graeme Reedie, better known as Silicone Soul (who also mixed Darkroom Dubs Vol. II). They’ve done some releases …
